Abstract

Delivery complications remain one of the leading causes of maternal morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. One of the most effective preventive efforts is conducting routine antenatal care (ANC) examinations in accordance with midwifery service standards. ANC visits enable early detection of pregnancy risks and timely interventions, thereby reducing the incidence of delivery complications. However, the level of compliance among pregnant women in attending ANC visits still varies, particularly in primary health facilities such as Gemaristy Clinic, North Toraja Regency. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the relationship between ANC visit compliance and the incidence of delivery complications. This research employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional study design involving all mothers who gave birth at Gemaristy Clinic, totaling 35 respondents. Data were collected through observation and medical record documentation, then analyzed to determine the relationship between ANC compliance and delivery complications. The results showed that most respondents were compliant with ANC visits, totaling 30 respondents (85.7%), while 5 respondents (14.3%) were non-compliant. Furthermore, most respondents did not experience delivery complications (33 respondents or 94.3%), while only 2 respondents (5.7%) experienced complications. Statistical analysis revealed a significant relationship between ANC compliance and the incidence of delivery complications (p = 0.017). This study concludes that the higher the level of ANC visit compliance among pregnant women, the lower the risk of experiencing complications during delivery. Increasing ANC compliance requires continuous midwifery education, improvement in service quality, and strengthened family support to achieve safe and healthy childbirth outcomes.
